(As quoted from Letter to Town sent by Maine Department of Environmental Protection [DEP], January 13, 2022)

LESS asphalt, more green

Developer proposed new construction, pavers, new asphalt parking lot, at least 4 buildings, lots of concrete: 62% of the property IMPERVIOUS

SIMPLE: 80% green space is the answer - CLICK HERE FOR DETAILS

This site exists to make one crucial point: the waterfront development proposed on Atlantic Avenue should feature less asphalt, and more green. In our documents library you can easily get critical info like letters from the DEP on which the media has yet to report.

The key issue is the amount of impervious surface proposed. Pollution carried by raindrops can run into the harbor over the proposed pavers, an asphalt parking lot, and too much concrete. BBHWP wanted their property covered by up to 62% impervious surfaces. The local standard is no more than 20%.

Together, let’s protect the harbor & promote green space

Shoreland Zoning Standards: The DEP wrote to Boothbay Harbor officials on January 13, 2022 that important shoreland zoning items “have not been adhered to.” Read letter here. How did Boothbay Harbor Waterfront Preservation (BBHWP) respond? They suggested that town regulatory officials should ignore a letter from DEP warning that shoreland zoning requirements “must be followed.”

It’s May of 2022 and BBHWP has no application filed with the Boothbay Harbor Planning Board. The information they post on Facebook is superficial and their website contains no concrete plans or drawings detailing future construction.

This site, Boothbay Harbor Waterfront Info, will publish documents and information that the media doesn’t have the resources to investigate and that are almost impossible to find on the town website. The DOCUMENTS section of this web site will be updated as we gather new information.
